Clothing Tasmania, Australia

imageHi my name is Gary and I am an artisan and designer based in Queenstown Tasmania. I love living on Tasmania’s rugged west coast and have been running a small gallery/ studio space “Studio 1881 Queenstown” for about a year. However like many remote communities that relied for so long on one industry which has now closed, Queenstown is a town in transition as it develops new economic opportunities around tourism while preserving its mining heritage. One of the challenges with developing new economic activity is finding the seed funding to get niche business opportunities off the ground. This is where you can help.

WHAT’S IN A DOMAIN NAME

A unique problem for Queenstown Tasmania is that Internet search engines automatically default to its more famous namesake Queenstown New Zealand. I have started a ‘tongue in cheek’ campaign “Queenstown – Not The New Zealand One” to highlight this problem and help promote Tasmania’s West Coast region with a range of merchandise which I have designed using the West Coast Branding Project icons and fonts.

THE GOAL

I am hoping to raise $4,000 from this campaign, first to cover the production costs associated with getting an inital run of t-shirts printed. By you preordering merchandise, I will be able to get extra stock printed for the start of the upcoming tourist season, which begins in October 2019.

If this campaign is really successful and I reach my goal,  it will assist me to buy some heat transfer printing equipment for printing designs and artwork onto cups, placemats and other merchandise for sale to tourists. It will also provide an opportunity for other local artists and businesses to create their own locally printed products to sell.

SUPPORTING THE LOCALS

I wish to thank the Galley Museum, King River Rafting, Roam Wild Tours, West Coast Wilderness Railway and Flaming Goat Designs for their in kind support and encouragement.

The first lot of t-shirts have arrived at the gallery. Some people have been asking about ordering sizes. I will email you once you have pledged, to get your postal address and required t-shirt sizes

Very excited so far about how things are progessing. It seems like everybody in town has a story about incidents from accomodation booking confusion to people wanting jet boat rides and bungy jumping. My favourite so far is the poor unfortunate who turned up for a holiday planned with friends who had all gone to New Zealand.

On the t-shirt front. Things are lined up with the printer for a small first print run in the coming week, so hopefully people will start seeing t-shirts by the end of the month. I have also been approached by another company interested in selling my design
