The aim of the Do Better series of ten work shops, is to provide free places for up to 100 at-risk youth identified through schools and community groups within the next 4 months.
To reach my target of 100 children, I require $1,500 ($150 per child) for each workshop. This target is for one workshop, and, in optimistic hope, any funds raised above that, will go directly towards workshop 2 and 3 and so on…
The Do Better workshop has been developed by myself and a team of sport, psychology and Allied Health professionals and aims to keep children in sport longer, by teaching skills, providing support and educating them in ways to do better off-field, so that they can do better on-field, and develop into healthy, constructive, community-minded adults.
The Do Better workshop is original, unique, innovative and interactive. It provides youth opportunities to learn about:
• mindfulness techniques,
• cognitive thinking,
• personal branding and
• creating long-term partnerships (I.E., coaches, mentors, teachers, parents and sponsors)
The workshop introduces participants to a mildly stressful sports related situation using an indoor skydiving tunnel, learning basic skills (this is controlled and suitable for people 3 – 103 years old). The goal is to highlight potential anxiety before and during performance.
Focus then turns to mindfulness techniques and cognitive thinking. Identifying stressors, and how we can re calibrate our thoughts to perform better in the moment.
Participants are importantly also taught about brand. What a brand is, why it is so important and how to create and protect your personal brand. This leads in to establishing partnerships. Learning how to create a strategy to identify, source and partner with long-term coaches, mentors, teachers and sponsors.
To complete the workshop, it is back into the tunnel to see how new skills learned earlier, will help children to intentionally bring focus back, and away from anxious moments that thwart performance.
Students leave with confidence, a workable sponsorship template, an understanding of what their brand means and how to protect it. They will also become a part of a team that will support them long-term, as they journey through life into young adults.
Do better workshops will seek out and engage at-risk youth (13 – 17 y/o) via the school system, government, community groups and parents/guardians. The program aims to create greater engagement and cohesion, community attachment and a sense of belonging.
All funds raised for this project are for the sole purpose of facilitating and providing free places for at-risk youth on Do Better Workshops.
About me…
My name is Rob Libeau and I have been involved in sport, in some capacity (playing, coaching, administering, mentoring or volunteering) for over 40 years. I have seen the power that sport has, to change lives.
I have developed the Do Better Workshops, because I honestly believe that we as adults, must give every oportunity to our kids, to ensure they grow in to confident, healthy, community-minded young adults themselves.
